Monofilament Fibers

Momofilament-Fibers-200CeraNova’s expertise includes extrusion of a range of unique micro-diameter monofilament fibers of piezoelectric, superconducting, and transparent ceramics. Monofilament extrusion has been applied successfully to form superconductors, and a variety of compositions including lead zirconate titanate (PZT), barium titanate, and yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG). The approach includes forming stable mixes of nanopowders, extrusion of the mix in a monofilament form with high and uniform green density, forming of the filaments in the desired configuration (including straight lengths, coils, and wound or braided structures) and achieving full density with lower densification temperatures / times to reduce grain growth. For compositions containing volatile species, controlled atmosphere densification has been successfully implemented to maintain the desired fiber composition.
